The Puppy Scam: A Story of God’s Faithfulness
Let me tell you a little story. A few months ago my husband and I started talking about getting another dog. Our yorkie, Leia, has seemed lonely for a while now and we were hoping to get her a friend. We didn’t start seriously looking however, until last week after spending time with my friend’s dog, who we fell in love with. Fast forward to Labor Day. I found what I thought was the perfect puppy through a Facebook doggy adoption group. The price was great and the pictures of the puppy were so cute, I could cry! The seller told me I could come get the puppy that Friday night. I was ecstatic! So ecstatic that I even gave her a name. But there was a catch. The seller then told me I had to make a deposit before even meeting the dog in person. Red Flag. She told me she was potty trained at only 10 weeks old. Red Flag #2 (not saying this isn’t possible, but seemed unlikely since they had so many puppies they were also selling). She then told me I had to pay the deposit or someone else would have her by the end of the day. Red Flag #3. I felt like I had gotten my hopes up for nothing. A few hours later I found another seller. This one seemed real. He said I could pay him after seeing the puppy to make sure I wanted her. I could have her by that night, but for some reason I had no peace about it. I felt anxious and just wasn’t in love with the puppy like I was with the first.
My husband saw how sad I seemed and told me, “Babe, we know we are getting a puppy soon regardless, let’s start buying stuff for her as an act of faith that she’s on her way.” I kid you not, that same night we saw the puppy of our dreams from a rescue shelter. A puppy we named Ember. She is everything we ever hoped for in another pup and more! The spark we were hoping for. Not only that, God reminded me of a dog Peter and I had seen years ago when we first got married. A curly haired cute brown doggy we were hoping to get, but financially couldn’t make happen. We didn’t remember, but He did! God is so faithful y'all! Sometimes a no from God comes with a greater blessing. As His children He wants to give us the best and Ember has been just that. A little blessing, a wink from God and a reminder of His faithfulness!
So if God has said no about something you’ve been wanting, it’s only because there’s something so much better on the other side. Trust Him and wait. I promise, it’ll be so worth it!
