3 Ways to Be the Light
When I was little and even until this day, my favorite aisle at Home Depot has always been the aisle of lights. You know, that one aisle that illuminates the whole store full of chandeliers, pendants and Edison lights. I don’t know why but I find it so pretty and it literally makes me light up everytime I walk through it. Now that my daughter is saying more words, it’s been fun walking through that aisle with her. She smiles and points around yelling, “Mum, look, light!” as if I just took her to the greatest show on earth.
This may sound silly, but I want to be like that aisle of lights. I want my life to look that way both on the inside and outside. I want it to be that when people walk by me, they can feel Jesus’ light radiating off me. They can feel God’s joy and peace when they’re around me. Not because of who I am, but because of who is in me!
The Bible says we are the light of the world, a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. (Matthew 5:14)
So what does that look like? How can we be His light, especially in these dark times?
1) Be like Jesus
The only way we can learn to be like Him, is by spending time with Him. Read the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) especially. Pay attention to how he interacted with those around Him. Notice the way he took the time to speak to those along his journey, how he stopped to pray for others or share a meal.
2) Use Uplifting Words
Some of my favorite friendships are those who anytime after meeting up with them, I feel empowered and encouraged. Be that friend, be that person who uses words to build people up. People already hear enough words all day to tear them down. Especially the negative thoughts they carry all day to begin with.
3) Share His Love
If Jesus is the best gift we’ve been given, how could we not share Him with others? If this applies to you, remember when you first fell in love with your spouse? How you couldn’t stop telling everyone about him/her? Fall in love with Jesus so that He becomes the center of your conversations and ultimately your life.
