A Pep Talk: Get Your Hopes Up
We’ve all heard the phrase at least once or twice in our lives, “don’t get your hopes up.” It’s usually someone’s way of telling us, “don’t get too excited because it’s probably not going to happen!” Why do we do that? Why do so many of us assume the worst? I know I’ve been guilty of that plenty of times and I hate it. Or as my mom always taught me, “we dislike, we don’t hate.”
Picture this scenario. You and I are having coffee while you’re sharing some of your hopes and dreams with me. Imagine if after you’ve shared your heart, I roll my eyes and say “Pssh I wouldn’t get my hopes up if I were you. We both know that is never going to happen.” How would that make you feel? Probably defeated, no? Or at least very angry with me. Would I blame you? Not one bit!
Let’s switch this up. Say instead I actually responded enthusiastically by saying , “Get your hopes up! I know in God’s timing it’ll happen!”
When you get your hopes up, you are telling God, I believe you’re going to make this happen. I have faith and trust in your perfect will!
So if lately you have found yourself afraid.
Afraid for the worst.
Afraid that God isn’t listening.
Afraid that you’ll be disappointed.
I DARE YOU to get your hopes up and watch God blow your mind.
